Limiting access to Panel to Agents 2 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello folks

I've just started using this component and like it a lot.

I have a question re User access. My site has registered frontend users as it has an events calendar to which they need to post. However, I do not want these users to have access to Panel or to be able to add properties. Only those users who are agents should be able to do this. How do I set this?

I'm probably missing something simple here - like I say, I am a new user

Thanks
Adam

Hi again

Thanks for the replies.

As I understand it, Special Access level would allow anybody from Author and up to make changes. I already allocate access to the calendar, articles etc., so need a different method for Agents. I think the key point is that my site is a general site with a real estate section, not a dedicated real estate site.

JEA creates a new User group called Agent, which seems the way to go. Also, I believe that Joomla 1.6 is going to have improved user access control. But it would be good to have it sorted within this component........

I remember when I first read about this component from here it mentions that Can change permissions in User Manager to 'Agent' , then this user can publish various properties.. As you said it seems that there is no way to distinguish registered users from agents. I need admins to confirm this.

this is NOT true

in fact you can give each registered user the rights to publish
you can make users to agents via the configuration of the component.
registered users are not able to publish (if you dont give them permission to do so) but they still see the link.

if you want to have a module (agents link menue) which is only shown to specific users try "metamod" OR what i use "advanced module manager"

this way you can "hide" the agents menue from registred users or make it shown only to specific users.

you could also make users to authors and set the link to special.. but I wouldnt do that

Thank you wulfseidel,
So I want to be sure whether it is possible to show agent panel link to agents but hide it from other registered users?
I am asking this because there is not any standard "agent" group within joomla groups.

Hello

I asked the original question in this post and, as wulfseidel suggests, used Advanced Module Manager to hide the agents panel. Worked well and was no great problem to set up. You can see the result on my site, McGregor Village or, more precisely, you can't see the result unless you are the agent

Front-end author seems to work for the agent, with everyone else, client or users of the events calender, coming in as front-end registered. I didn't manage to get the Users section within the Property component to do much, other than list all the users listed on the site. An agent group would make a big difference!

The remaining big problem is taming the URL's. I use sh404SEF and can't get anything friendly for my property pages.

But hey, though little problems there may be, thanks for a great component!!

hey adlew i use acesef and there is an extension extra for this component, you could use the free acesef + the plugin (9$)

if you assign a user to be an agent via the backend configuration of the component he will be shown in the agents list if not he wont

i simply love this component :D

My conclusions(correct my if I am wrong):

1.There is no way to only show "agent panel" link to agents except that agents were from author group.

2.Registered users can not publish any property even if they have access to agent panel.

3.Only users which are defined as agents in "user manager" of com-property control panel, can have agent details (i.e. name,phone,email,address,...)

but there is still one thing strange. I defined my details in this page
Code:

http://www.com-property.com/en/my-profile.html

and set it to "show" and "published". Then I could see myself as an agent of the site.

How is this possible? I am only a registered user and not agent. Is this an intentional feature of this site for showing component demo? or what?

Hi wulfseidel

Thanks for the tip about acesef. I'll give it a go in a couple of months time - for now I need a break from site building and must concentrate on getting clients to let me advertise their properties - it would be good to see a profit.... some day

The one thing I do like about sh404SEF is its security features. I got hacked once and scummy viagra scripts installed. I found and removed it within 24 hours, but still get links in from other hacked sites, and bad bots visiting, not to mention struggling to get their search terms off Google. Am I now paranoid? Damn right!!!

hi, I have a question regarding agent's access. I want agents when they login in admin panel only to be able to see their own properties and not be able to touch anything else including joomla main site content.

any ideas?
